Automate printed catalogs

If you want to automate the layout of your catalogue, here is the way to do it.

There are different types of catalogues. We can devide these two kinds in content driven and layout driven catalogues. For these different types of catalogues we provide different solution models which both can be found in the X-Channel Solutions family.

Structured catalog: Schneider Electric   Layout driven catalogue: Quelle

Content driven catalogues

A typical content driven catalogue can be found in the wholesale sector. Here the layout follows the content which is published. The technique we use to generate these catalogues can be typecasted as 'Push'.

In these catalogues most pages look very similar and therefor may look easy to automate. Small layout issues however make a big difference in the possibilities of automating these publications.

Where most reportwriters are at the edge of their possibilities, the X-Channel Solutions only begins to work.

Layout driven catalogues

These types of catalogues demand a different approach. Here the layout is the leading factor. The technique we use to generate these catalogues can be typecasted as 'Pull'.

Optimisation for such publications can be found in gathering the right information, images, prices.

Furthermore the process can be supported by a price-update minutes before going to press.

Solution

For these types of catalogues we base the solution on push-technology, where the content management system actually pushed the content through layout-settings into the DTP software.

Solution

For these types of catalogues we base the solution on pull-technology in combination with push-technology. First we put the requiered data on the pages and the artist can create his own final layout. the second step is to update the document with the latest content from the CMS.
