Each pricelist has its own product assortment. Each article or product is assigned a category. A category determines the target market to which the product or article may be published. A product or article can also be assigned multiple categories. In addition to a varying assortment, each price list has slightly different article table in which product information is published. For instance, end user prices are published to an end user price list whereas the wholesalers have three different prices depending on the volume they order (less than half a pallet, half a pallet and pallet prices).
DCM also manages a large number of images. Each product exists in various packaging units as well as in different quantities, and each has its own image. During the project definition stage DCM chose to have all the images for the published products to be placed on the page. A lay-outer can then make an attractive presentation of the images and delete the surplus images.
X-Channel Solutions also offers DCM a great number of additional features that have not yet been defined. For instance, product pricing is only made available shortly before a pricelist should go to print. One feature is the possibility to update prices in an existing document. This allows DCM to generate a pricelist, perform any manual lay-out operations and then update the prices right before going to print. Furthermore, the database built up in xCS.content is a perfect source to publish product information to one or more websites or to allow other brands within the group to manage and publish their own data.
