PhytoSystem

  • Product Information management in CMS
  • Production of 2 bi-lingual catalogues per year
  • Import from existing MS Access database
  • Generation of barcodes from EAN code
  • Dynamic page backgrounds
  • Ready to supply product content to each members' individual website

Challenge

The first PhytoSystem catalogue was produced manually in QuarkXPress. This process was extremely slow and labour intensive.

Since this process took many months, the product assortment changed a number of times causing major headaches for the lay-outer as he had to find a way of inserting and removing products from the pages already completed and approved.

Once the first production was completed, PhytoSystem decided to look more closely at automating the process.

Solution

From now on the catalogues are generated automatically using xCS.press, the software that allows the publishing of data from any CMS to printable documents.

Once all the members of the PhytoSystem grouping approved the lay-out, the templates could be built. Although all the language dependent data is stored separately, PhytoSystem publishes both Flemish and French data onto one page. In doing so a considerable amount of printing and paper costs will be saved.

However, the CMS is configured to publish each language independently as well as add more languages in the future, if required.

Benefits

PhytoSystem plan to publish at least two catalogues per year, each several hundred pages per catalogue. The Return on Investment (ROI) is estimated at 3 production cycles, or in other words 18 months.

This estimation may be further reduced if additional publications are generated with the system, such as price proposals, customer specific catalogues, etc. This estimation is based on the PhytoSystem’s previous publishing trend.
